Santiago and Constitución square

It is located in the centre of the old area of Betanzos. Its emplacement coincides with the croa (settlement on the top of a hill) of the primitive Celtic fortification where the population settle down.

Description: Its main building, the neoclassical Concello, was built by the architect Ventura Rodríguez. This square shows one of the best representations of power the city had in the Middle Age, since the main powers were assembled there: the Church with the temple dedicated to Santiago, and the nobility, with the pazos (kind of manor houses) of Bendalla, Lanzós and Taboada. The Casa Núñez, which has modernist style, is from the beginning of the XX century and nowadays it houses the head office of the CIEC (the International Centre of Contemporary Stamp). Torre del Reloj (The Tower of the Clock), which is property of the town, also stands out.
