Church and Convent of Saint Dominic

They are located in Irmáns García Naveira square. They began to be built in the middle of XVI century on the basis of an old chapel, when the Dominican order arrived in Betanzos. The works continued during the XVII and XVIII centuries.

Description: The church is mostly a masonry building but the main chapel, which was partly built of cut stone. The baroque chapels La Soledad, Las Ánimas and Del Rosario were added at the begining of the XVII century, making the temple deeper.
Sourraundings: The convent of Saint Dominic was risen joined to the church. The cloister with large windows, the arches of the rooms, and the staircase leading to the cells stand out inside the convent. After the disentailment in 1835, the convent is owned by the municipalty the Dominican order is expelled from the town of Betanzos. These days, it houses the Public Library and the Museum of As Mariñas.
