Complex of Santa María de Oís

Romanesque church of rural style from the XII century (1183.) It is located in Santa María de Oís, in Coirós. It has an inscription on the tympanum which refers to the presbytery of Pelayo de Oís and to the year it was built.

Description: In the interior of the church, which has rectangular floor plant, the transition between the nave and the presbytery occurss through an ogive triumphal arch. The temple has only one vault in the apse, which is reinforced by two arches: the triumphal one and other placed in the middle that emerges from four joined semi-columns.

Decoration: The decoration in the exterior is concentrated in the main facade, where the tympanum stands out, having an inscription which refers to the presbytery of Pelayo de Oís and to the year it was built.

Surroundings: The calvary sculpture or cruceiro de Santa Maria de Oís is in the atrium of the church. It is on a platform with wide quadrangular steps. The pedestal has prismatic form, it is not very high and has smooth sides. The column has a section of poligonal shape with tip ended beveled groins. San Marcos image is sculpted on the front part. And the Neoclassical capital has a quadrangular shape. An image of Christ crucified is on the front of the cross, whilst the crowned Glorious Virgin is on the back with a large and elaborated cloak.
