Church of the Santuario dos Remedios

This Baroque church was built to Christianize a place of Celtic rites in the parish of Santaia, in Curtis. It was built in the XVII-XVIII centuries, and altered in 1945.

History: The alteration involved putting a concrete basilical floor plan of three naves on the original structure; solely respecting the arch of the entrance, the facade with vaulted niches, and the 2-hollow belfry on the top ofthe door.

Description: It has a basilical floor door with a central nave and two side naves. In the interior; a founders burial laude, which has an inscription from 1640, can be contemplated. In the exterior part, the covered whitewashed walls contrast with the corners and some uncovered stone pieces. The typical belfry of two sections stands out in the main facade.

What to see: Among the ornamental elements, the Neo-Gothic altarpiece of the presbytery stands out.

Surroundings: At one of the sides of the church, a granite calvary sculpture or cruceiro can be contemplated on a three-step platform with a quadrangular pedestal. It has a square-section strut; which is topped by a simple capital with a cross that has no images. An altar stone stands out at the front part of the church; and in the vicinity there is also the Our Ladys fountain, which is attributed miraculous water.
