Church of Santaia

It is the bigger church in the municipalty of Curtis, and an altarpiece located in the High Altar stands out in its interior.

Description: It has Latin cross floor plan and a nave, which is divided in three parts by semi-circle barrel arches. Thus, the choir is placed on the closest third to the foot of the church. The vestry, which is behind the altar, has been recently rebuilt. The facade is made of square stone, and has a high tower; which stands out of the horizontality of the building. In its centre, it has a rose window that overlooks the choir.

Decoration: Regarding the interior decoration, the Neoclassical altarpiece of the High Altar stands out. It depicts the Crucifixion. The church is surrounded by a perimetral wall; on which the Way of the Cross is depicted having an inscription under every cross.

Surroundings: The calvary sculpture or cruceiro de Santaia is in a side square next to the church. It was built in 1868 due to a local neighbours promise. It stands on a-step platform with a pedestal of two pieces. It has a quadrangular capital that is decorated with angels and volutes on its corners. And a Latin cross with beveled edge is on it. As a figurative decoration, an image of Christ crucified is on the front of the cross; and a Virgin Dolorosa on a platform with a rolled snake on the back.
