Bridge of El Pedrido

It is a bridge built over the Ría de Betanzos, between 1939 and 1942, by the prestigious engineer Eduardo Torroja and with the aim to improve the communications between A Coruña and Ferrol.

History: This engineering structure marked a historical milestone in the
life of the peoples of the region, because of what it represented as
for communications and because of the technical developments used for
its construction. The use of reinforced concrete represented a great
innovation at that time since it was the first time this material was
used for a structure of such dimensions.

Dates: The opening was held on April 16, 1943.

Description: The most characteristic element of the bridge is a great
central arch that provides it majesty. Its central section has
dimensions of 75 m and over it there is a reinforced concrete
cable-stayed arch of 12,5 m of rise index with two hinge points and an
inferior decking hanging through spacing queen posts of 3,65 m.
