Church and convent of Saint Francis

It is a church of Gothic style located in the historical centre of Betanzos. And it is also one of the best examples of the Franciscan mendicant Gothic. It was declared National Monument in 1919, and is currently considered a Property of Cultural Interest (the Spanish B.I.C.)

Description: This church has a Latin cross plan, three radiating
chapels, and only a nave with transverse archs. The exterior, which was
once had paintings, has terrace heights. The upper part crowns the
crossing, where there are three windows, two of which are, as the
temple, Gothic style. Down the facade, the Main Chapel, the transepts
of the crossing, and the rectangular chapels placed in the apse area.

miss: A series of sepulchers of knights from the XIV, XV and XVI
centuries, which represent a significant element from the histirical
and artistic point of view. It is specially interesting the Fernán
Pérez de Andrades sarcophagus
, which is at the base of the temple,
underneath the choir, supported by a bear and a wild boar. The apse is
ornamented with the Andrades coat of arms, having the aisles two
relieved hunting scenes. The sarcophagus is closed by a granite
tomstone with the statute of the lying knight in his armor.
