Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios

This church is a Renaissance work from the XVI-XVII centuries (1568-1601). It was built under the management of the master Juan Herrera on an old chapel. It belongs to the parish of Tiobre and is located in the route of the English Way of Saint James.

Description: The floor plan is divided in three areas of different height: apse, crossing, and nave. The main body belongs to the presbytery, covered by a big double design lierne vaulting. There are two chapels in the crossig devoted to Saint Caetano and Saint Anthony respectively. Both of them are civered by ribbed vaults.

Origin: This sanctuary was looted in 1808 by French people. The origin of the temple is related with the legends based on the Virgins apparitions. An old chapel with a hospital for pilgrims is known to have been located in this place.
Dont miss: On the main facade some beautiful images of Christ, James and Roch can be admired.
Sourraundings: In the atrium of this church there is an austere neoclassical fountain, whose only adornment is a medallion in the centre of the metope of the frieze. At its right side, there is an overflow tank with lid, where a consecrated cross is engraved.
